February, month of the 33rd floor walkup?
I am debating whether I should try going the month of February without using an elevator*. I figure it would be a good source of mandatory exercise, and it would create some fun stories. Much like walking 4.5 miles (and 4.5 miles back) from Manhattan to Brooklyn over the Manhattan Bridge just for dinner is both good story and good exercise.

* I will use the elevator if I am with other people, or carrying skis. Newport has this stupid policy that the entrance to the stairs is locked going in, so I'll have to wait for the elevator and get out on the second floor anyway. This is a big disincentive to taking the stairs.

Do it! I like your rule that you'll take the elevator if others are with you... so that I don't have to walk it!

how long does 4.5 miles take you? I'm good for 20 minutes per mile, walking, but 2 is my limit (at work, at least). But then, I am not you.

I would also have to consider carefully my food intake before making the trek back...

A 4.5 mile walk (including getting and drinking bubble tea, which happened on both ways) took about 90 minutes. This is right in line with the average walking speed on flat ground of 3 miles per hour, which agrees with your 20 minutes/mile.
